Big grant for ETEC vaccine development to MIVAC researchers
MIVAC researchers Ann-Mari Svennerholm and Jan Holmgren and coworkers have received a grant amounting to 4,9 million US dollars (ca 35 million SEK) from PATH´s Enteric Vaccine Initiative to support the further preclinical and clinical development of an oral vaccine against diarrhea caused by enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC). The vaccine is made from special vaccine strains developed by the Gothenburg group that express important antigens for immune protection. The grant will largely be used to subcontract GMP manufacturing of vaccine preparations for clinical testing, and to support phase I clinical studies of prototype and final vaccines.
