Voices and opinions about MIVAC

Sara Lindén, MIVAC

When Sara heard that NASA developed a special kind of weightless cell-culture, she interrupted her PhD studies for a period and took theS_Linden chance to learn more about that specific technique. This drive to follow up on an exciting possibility has now brought her to the MIVAC research Center. After a post-doc position in Australia she wanted to come back to Sweden and received one of MIVAC's Young Investigator Awards. Initially, however, she received a VR-position and specifically applied for coming to MIVAC. She says she has never regretted the step:

"To be in a surrounding where so many people share common interests, all the activities aimed at bridging specialities and the possibilities for cooperation that this creates ..., this is all so fantastic and it has meant a lot to me. Of course it also helped to get specific financial support, especially in the beginning when it is crucial to be able to hire the right people and start producing results. I really hope that MIVAC, and the MIVAC spirit of cooperation will survive past the 5-year period of SSF-financing".

Sara is now having her own group that does research on the relation between mucus components and infections, specifically on Helicobacter pylori in the stomach. She is very excited about some unexpected results from one of her projects, which hopefully will be published soon. Read more about Sara's project at her research group description.
