Voices and opinions about MIVAC

Impressions from a “MIVAC reflection group” meeting

"...all groups need an aim and something to gain" Ali says at some point, summarizing what some of our discussions keep leading back to.

The five of us have gathered at the sunny terrace of "Lunchen.nu" for the second "MIVAC reflection group" meeting. A new group, with refreshing reflections on old questions. Ali represents the PI-group, Dubi the TA-staff, Tobias the PhD students and Jessica the post-docs.

Funny enough the remark above comes back in discussions covering different topics. The post-doc group worked for example very nicely as long as they worked with putting together the famous "post-doc manual" (available under the menu "Training - Information for Postdocs"). In the PhD group a similar aim-directed coherence pops up every time the pub is organized, and Tobias comments that without involvement in one of the bridging projects, he does not feel a direct connection with MIVAC.
This is obviously important to keep in mind when planning different activities to stimulate interactions. Science as such is of course a natural aim and a suggestion from the students is to organize a day where they can present posters and give short presentations. Apparently, at the retreat this spring, this was an appreciated part of the program for them.

There is very much agreement on which activities are important to continue next year. Everyone really wants the seminars to go on with the same high standard and to maintain the organization of the EBM breeding unit. Also the other core-facilities are important, though different groups have a different focus on what they use most, the microscope unit, the proteomics facility or the protein expression unit.
The above is just giving a taste of our discussions that ranged from pure science to MIVAC-related subjects. Summarizing another inspiring meeting!
